Honor Coach McGlinchey's Legacy at Salisbury University!

The Coach Mike McGlinchey Endowment A Project of Maroon & Gold General Athletic Fund

Mike McGlinchey was a teacher and a coach his entire adult life. He loved to learn, and he loved to share what he had learned.

In 1972, Mike initiated the wrestling program at then Salisbury State University and served as its head coach for 10 years. In that time, the wrestling program produced six NCAA Division III Individual National Champions and 16 Division III All-Americans.

Mike became the head football coach at Salisbury State University in 1982, after serving as defensive coordinator for 10 years. In his four years as head coach, the team was selected for the NCAA Division III National Playoffs three times, advancing to the quarterfinals once, the semi-finals once and playing once in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl for the NCAA Division III National Championship.

Far beyond his coaching success, Coach McGlinchey is revered for the dedication he had to his players, both on and off the field. He was loved and highly respected by athletes, students, faculty and members of the community for his unmatched intensity, discipline and commitment to excellence. He shaped the confidence and character of hundreds of young student-athletes, extending beyond the sport itself, and upheld this commitment through the end of his life.

Mike considered every young man who he had the good fortune to coach "inspirational" to him. Mike died from ALS in 1997.
